FOOTBALL

At Somerdale Pavilion we have 15 pitches of a variety of sizes, including 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and 11-aside. These pitches are private but available to hire.

We are proudly home to three local football teams; Red Falcon FC, Fry’s Club FC and Fry Club JFC, and are regularly host to local matches and competitions.

About Red Falcon FC

Red Falcon FC is fast becoming a big grassroots football club, with new teams starting each season.

They were established in 2017 and became a Charter Standard Club within 1 year. Starting with 3 age groups in 2017, they now have 10 across their Junior boys and girls section, along with 1 senior women’s team- Red Falcon LFC.

They believe that football is for all and aim to give every child or adult the chance to play the beautiful game regardless of ability or background.

They have partnerships with #HerGameToo #Football4everyone and The Gym Group Longwell Green.

You can find them on Facebook: Red Falcon FC and Red Falcon Ladies FC

About Fry Club FC

Fry Club FC were founded in 1916 as part of the J S Fry & Son Factory. As the football section flourished, through the early years they played their home games at many different venues across Bristol. Somerdale remains the established base of Fry Club FC, and during the 50’s and 60’s the club’s 1st and reserve teams won 4 district division titles between them.

The Club reached a pinnacle of operating 6 men’s teams on Saturdays in local and county leagues and 1 veterans team in 2019 on a Sunday morning, which is a testament to the rich heritage the club has to offer.

Fry Club FC now operate 3 men’s teams on a Saturday, 2 of which are in The Somerset County League and 1 in the Bristol & District League with the Veterans planned to be reintroduced on a Sunday morning in the Bristol Corinthians League. Whilst they aim to offer a level of football to match all abilities, the ambition remains to progress the men’s 1st Team up to Step 6 to embrace and compliment the top-class facilities now at Somerdale.

Training takes place on Tuesday evenings and also on Thursdays for the 1st team. They train at Somerdale on grass under lights and at Wellsway School under lights on astro. All coaches are minimum FA Level 1 qualified.

All of their scheduled matches, results and league tables can be found on the FA.com/fulltime website under the respective leagues they are members of.

They welcome all enquiries and new members into the club and ask for a level of commitment to attend training and be available on match days for selection.

They can be contacted through The Somerdale Pavilion, or club secretary, Steve Curtis (07929 746815) or through Twitter @FrysFC.

About Fry club JFC

Fry Club JFC began life as Keynsham Wanderers in 1968 at Kelston Road PF under Les Stroud.  Growing yearly they soon moved to the Somerdale site wearing their iconic royal blue kit, and in 1976 changed their name to Somerdale Wanderers.

In 1998 at the behest of Fry Club Conference centre they changed their name to Fry Club JFC and colours to red & black as a condition of playing there and continued to grow, starting their first girl’s team in 2003, since when they have had both girls and boys teams every year.

In 2018, with the move to the new Somerdale Pavilion, they took the decision to return to their traditional royal blue colours and launch a new website, Facebook and Twitter pages as part of the rebrand as well as keeping their historic website to recognise past achievements.

They started their Wildcats Centre in the summer of 2018, which has grown exponentially to the point that in just three years they created five girls teams with two more ready for the next season.

As a community club, they aim to give access to football to as many girls and boys as they possibly can. You can find them online on their main website, their historic website, on Facebook and on Twitter.
